Spleen 9 Location
- With the knee flexed, Spleen 9 is located at the inferior margin of the medial condyle of the tibia, in the depression between the posterior margin of the tibia and gastrocnemius muscle.
- A simple way to locate Spleen 9 is to run your finger along the tibia and it will naturally fall into Spleen 9.
- Spleen 9 is sometimes referred to as being an ‘area’ than a ‘point’, so once you’ve located Spleen 9 mechanically, palpate the close region to locate the tenderest spot in the area and use that for the location of Spleen 9.
Spleen 9 Needling
- To needle Spleen 9, use an oblique or perpendicular insertion to a maximum depth of 0.5 cun.

Spleen 9 is also the Water point on the Spleen channel.
The main actions of Spleen 9 are:
- It resolves Damp-Heat and Damp-Cold in cases of Damp-Bi, Damp in the lower Jiao and oedema.
- It benefits the lower Jiao in cases of cystitis, leucorrhoea and diarrhoea.
- As a local point to activate the channel in cases of knee problems.
